Freedom Blend Coffee was founded in 2011 by Freedom for Youth to share the Gospel with and bring employment training opportunities to young people in the community. In the beginning, we roasted and sold bags of coffee out of a small building on the west end of the campus and at area farmers markets. The goal was always to open a public coffee shop.

In 2014, the Ministry purchased the car wash located just west of its Des Moines campus. With the help of many volunteers, donors, and businesses within the community, the structure was renovated into the coffee shop that stands today. The coffee shop had its grand opening on September 13th, 2017.

Employment training is the heart of our mission at Freedom Blend Coffee. We teach young adults, age 18-25, valuable customer service, food safety, and hospitality skills along with life and career skills that empower them to enter the workplace more confident and more prepared for the challenges before them.
